Real time data from passenger movement sensing technologies will drive research at FEIT’s newest research centre, aiming to give a better transport experience to travellers in fast-growing cities such as Sydney.
Dr Michelle Zeibots is leading the interdisciplinary team at the Transport Research Centre, an innovation hub officially launched on 17 May by the NSW Minister for Transport and Infrastructure, the Hon Andrew Constance. The Centre will collaborate with road, bus and rail public transport service providers to develop and implement improved transport infrastructure and public services.
“UTS researchers combine robotics, passenger sensing technologies, data analytics and 3D data visualisation with the insights and know-how of transport providers for a responsive passenger information system,” said Dr Zeibots.
“This typifies our collaborative and interdisciplinary approach, working with government and industry at all project stages, from idea to service output. Influencing changes to even small behaviours that stop blockages causing delay in passengers in getting on and off public transport can add up to a lot of time saved, nicer travel experiences and real cost savings.”
The Centre will enable design and innovation thinkers, transport planners and traffic engineers, industrial designers, robotics engineers, mathematicians, economists, information and computer scientists to cause break-throughs in new technologies, systems and processes by attacking complex problems form many angles at once.
