Leadership matters. That’s why our course directors are all at the top of their game.
Introducing our staff
Meet our academics
Meet our course directors at our next information evening and ask them about the program or career prospects. It’s your career, your future so why not take the time to read their story.
Interaction design is one of the most rapidly growing disciplines, and I have been astounded by the way implementing modern human-centred design approaches can completely change the outcome of software projects. With modern prototyping tools and appropriate technological tools and design expertise interaction designers can see a project from initial sketches through to fully-functional prototype in a very short period, meaning they now play a central role in many projects.

Senior Lecturer, School of Computer Science
Human-Computer Interaction (HCI), Participatory Design and Interaction Design are different technology-design disciplines that help us explore ways to better research and design technologies for people. In particular, I enjoy the challenges of designing technologies that can offer meaningful alternatives in ways we can enrich our lives, our relationships with others, and our environment. They include, playful and novel technologies to re-imagine how we interact with music and Internet of Things technologies to support ageing people to live longer at home. More recently, this includes working closely with Indigenous Australians to co-design technologies to help close the gap.
Associate Professor Tuck Wah Leong
School of Computer Science
The field of Interaction Design encompasses the study of people, technology and design. The outcome could be an interactive product containing embedded electronics supporting people in their everyday lives. Since the field is relatively new and the possibilities with technology are rapidly expanding, I see Interaction Design as an opportunity to imagine and create new interactive products, inspired by the needs and desires of people. You could be an inventor!
Professor Elise Van Den Hoven
Professor in Human-Computer Interaction
Interaction design is a fascinating and rapidly expanding area which is concerned with how people actually experience new technologies. The focus is not only on how to make something work in a technical sense, but how to make sure that the things we make enhance people's lives.
My personal interest is in exploring how new technologies facilitate new forms of creative expression. In my practice and research I explore ways of using new technology in artistic contexts, with an emphasis on the development of interactive software for live performance.
