Australia’s first postgraduate major in Tunnelling and Underground Engineering

Australia’s rapid expansion and surge in infrastructure development has created a demand for experts in tunnelling and underground engineering.

UTS launches Australia’s first tunnelling and underground engineering program

In February 2024, the School of Civil and Environmental Engineering is launching Australia’s first specialised postgraduate major in Tunnelling and Underground Engineering.

This major is aimed at industry professionals and has been designed closely with industry experts to ensure students receive real-world and in-field practice as part of the learning experience.

Students will undertake projects to develop knowledge and skills to comprehend new technologies and enhance the design, operation, and optimisation of Tunnelling and Underground Engineering. 

The Tunnelling and Underground Engineering program presents an exceptional opportunity for students to attain practical insights and real-world experience in the field of tunnelling and underground engineering.  

By incorporating industry expertise into the curriculum, students will develop the knowledge and professional skills essential to this sector.

Students will study practical skills in modern site investigations, planning, design, construction, management, tunnel boring machines, trenchless technologies, safety and sustainability aspects of tunnelling and underground engineering projects.
