Talking Trash is a participatory workshop aimed at designers which attempts to intervene in the dominant consumption cycles that end with objects becoming trash. The project establishes trash as a problematic concept and demonstrates how participatory methods can act as a means of forming a more caring relationship with objects and consequently a more sustainable design practice. Participatory activities centred around a set of neglected objects use making as a method to immerse designers in reflection on their relationship with the objects. The hope is that by engaging with the nature of trash designers will start to use their mediatory role in production for environmental good.
