Table for One’ is a virtual reality vignette that critically explores an everyday scenario concerning the use of mobile devices - particularly in the presence of other people. Through a sense of empathy created via immersion, the presented narrative highlights some of the different perspectives that may be experienced to gain a better understanding of how people in different positions may feel. ‘Table for One’ brings an awareness to a new wave of loneliness that can be both experienced and perpetuated unconsciously and in turn asks a participant to consider how this might also bring about an experience of disconnection.
