This core technical subject took the form of a series of case studies demonstrating how the implementation of highly integrated architectural spatial strategies, specific construction methods and material systems give rise to outstanding architectural outcomes of various scales. The knowledge, methodologies and written tools developed during the initial exercises deeply informed the related capstone studio design project concurrently being undertaken by students (see Integration 2015). The subject argued that any notion of ‘advanced’ architectural construction can only be attained through the conceptual and practical frameworks of deep-level integrated practice. This idea was communicated by the students’ final set drawings which each revealed the interdependent relationships between surfaces, material qualities, structural systems, tectonic properties and spatial configurations.
