Read to Me is a multiplatform storytelling event that takes visual narratives and projects them in front of a live audience. It is a space for visual storytellers to share their work and investigate the more performative aspects of their craft; authors read their work to an audience alongside projections of their images.
Read To Me takes work that traditionally exists on the page in the form of comics, cartoons, photography and illustration and places it in a live performance context. It is a multimedia event that explores the role of performance in storytelling and what happens to visual narratives when they are adapted to different outcomes.
The project is a response to a need for marginalised voices to be able to present their work to new audiences. It's a place for works in progress by local independent authors to exist alongside more polished pieces, allowing a diversity of voices and styles to come forward.
Read to Me has been performed as part of the Ubud Writers’ Festival, Jogyakarta biennale, NSW Library networks Comic CONversation and the State Library of Victoria. It is currently half way through a year-long residency at the Knox Street bar in Chippendale.
