Belinda Bentley honoured at 2022 Alumni Awards ceremony
Belinda is a passionate advocate for positive change, having been inspired by her grandparents’ lives in social housing in Hong Kong and the community assistance her parents received when they arrived in Australia. And the theoretical concepts and practical insights she learnt while studying at UTS have helped her to understand the power of the built environment to change lives – particularly through social housing.
Belinda fights for better access to affordable housing options and services for all Australians, in her role as Non-Executive Director on the board of one of Australia’s largest community housing providers – Link Wentworth Housing.
As the Director of 9Springs, the independent property investment, advisory and project management group she co-founded in 2016, she draws on her knowledge and experience in the built environment sector to help not-for-profit organisations unlock their potential.
An active member of the Urban Development Institute of Australia NSW Diversity and Inclusion Committee, Belinda fights for diverse representation in leadership and community housing. She also holds various roles with the Urban Land Institute (ULI) - a global multidisciplinary research and education non-profit.
Belinda feels empowered by the idea of leaving a legacy of helping communities, and receiving the Design, Architecture and Building Award has boosted her confidence in her commitment.
Looking at past winners of this award gives me confidence that, if I stay on this trajectory I can continue making positive change. I want to look back and see that I made a positive contribution on people’s lives. They don’t need to know that I even exist – it’s more just knowing that I helped.
UTS Alumni Award winners are recognised for their excellence across a range of professional and academic backgrounds. They demonstrate the immense talent that exists within the alumni community, both professionally and in the broader community and exemplify the UTS core values — commitment to excellence, innovation, entrepreneurship and social justice.
