Batch: Celebrating Local Artisans During Sydney Design 2015

A new exhibition will bring together some of the country’s most successful object designers to showcase the best in bespoke product design.
Batch will be held at Sydney’s Gaffa Galleries as part of Sydney Design 2015.
“I curated the exhibition with the idea of wanting to highlight the trends toward local, small‐scale manufacturing practices,” said curator Berto Pandolfo, UTS senior lecturer and Integrated Product Design course director.
“Our industry is definitely shifting as a response to the opportunities that have arisen from current digital, technological and social developments,” he continued.

Recent innovations in making, such as 3D printing, selling and collaboration have allowed hybrid models for making to emerge, enabling, in turn, a more diverse and widespread engagement with object making by designers.
As the sole curator, Mr Pandolfo specifically selected items produced in small numbers and reached out to local designers, many of whom studied at UTS, to exhibit their handcrafted creations.
Featured designers include Kenny Son founder of Studiokyss, Radka Passianova, Alfred Ching and Renee Jones; all makers of jewellry, objects and homewares.
‘Batch: Creative Practice, Enterprise and Limited Run Production’ runs from September 3 – 14 at Gaffa, 281 Clarence Street, Sydney.
