Migrant Modernisms: Emigre Architects in Australia
Isabel Rousset will discuss her UTS Chancellor’s Research Fellowship project, titled “Migrant Modernisms: Emigre Architects in Australia”.
This research project aims to provide the first systematic assessment of the impact of Central European émigré architects in Australia in the mid-twentieth century.
Through conducting interviews and assessing hitherto-neglected archival and published materials, the project will weave immigrant biographies into a historical tapestry that can act as a catalyst for nuanced debate about Australia’s immigrant heritage.
She will also discuss some of the opportunities and challenges of interpreting sources in the context of emigre biographies.
