En.Gauge is an ongoing post-occupancy evaluation and research program. We jointly developed the BOSSA Survey, and build a rich narrative of building and precinct performance.

En.Gauge

En.Gauge is an ongoing post occupancy evaluation and research program within UTS Faculty of Design, Architecture and Building.  Led by Professor Leena Thomas, it is founded on more than two decades of building performance, sustainability and living laboratory research, and provides critical research in relation to the performance of buildings and precincts.

The program offers a suite of tools to gain feedback from the perspective of occupants and users. Our research has been routinely used by building owners, tenants, designers, and facilities managers and others to validate design decisions, improve development, procurement and sustainability of buildings, and to better manage facilities to ensure they reach their potential.

Our surveys are recognised by Green Building Council of Australia, NABERS and NZ Green Building Council and WELL v1 within their building performance rating processes.

Building Occupants Survey System Australia (BOSSA)

The BOSSA Survey was developed for office buildings by the University of Technology Sydney (UTS) in collaboration with the University of Sydney.  The BOSSA project was funded by the Australian Research Council (ARC) and Industry Partners Brookfield-Multiplex, Investa, GPT, Stockland and ARUP.  The survey includes core modules – for indoor air quality, spatial comfort, noise distraction and privacy, connection to outdoor environment, building image and maintenance, individual space, thermal comfort, visual comfort and perceived productivity and health – and is relied upon by numerous high-profile organisations.

En.Gauge and En.Gauge PLUS surveys

En.Gauge and En.Gauge PLUS surveys are a range of customised surveys, exclusive to UTS. Each offers core and optional modules to suit different types of buildings – including workplaces, schools, retail, health care, residential, and precincts. Each offers core and optional modules to evaluate indoor environmental quality, comfort, design, sustainability, health and productivity, and transport.
