Types of internship
- Existing internship opportunity within your organisation
A one-off opportunity where you are seeking particular support for a project or general assistance across different aspects of organisation. This is often a good way to begin a longer term engagement with UTS students with many organisations returning every year to offer other internship opportunities. - Co-designed internship program
If you wish to develop a partnership with an academic program and engage interns from a specific degree on an annual basis, our academic staff and WIL Team will work with you to co-design a mutually beneficial learning experience. - Teacher Practicums
If you are a school looking for primary or secondary teacher practicum students, please contact the School of Education Professional Experience Team. - International Internships
Please contact our Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences International Team if you would like to talk about developing partnerships that include opportunities for students to complete internships overseas.
Recent co-designed internship programmes
Indonesian Trade Promotion Centre (ITPC)
UTS Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences and ITPC signed a partnership agreement for three years for teaching and research collaboration. The agreement includes an annual internship program for FASS students with the central theme of sustainable goods production in Indonesia.
Every year up to ten FASS students with a course focus on Sustainability apply for the ITPC internship and complete a specifically tailored program through which they learn about Indonesian culture, economy, trade and politics, while applying their own knowledge and degree-specific skills by working on projects that aid the promotion of sustainably produced Indonesian goods in the Australian market.
The students apply their critical and creative thinking in the sustainability space and make use of their specialist skills in qualitative and quantitative research and content production for the benefit of ITPC's promotional activities in Australia.
Explore the Indonesia Sustainable Design House website the students have created as part of the internship program to showcase their work (opens an external link).
Internship host testimonials
We have found that UTS FASS produces highly skilled and passionate professionals with a positive attitude to efficiently tackle new learning experiences and with fresh ideas to enhance the way we do things. We looked to find people who had an interest in marketing, communications - and books - and UTS FASS was a great place to find someone who filled these criteria. We look forward to hosting more student interns from the faculty.
Adam Freedman
Head of Brand and Communications, Booktopia
UTS Arts and Social Sciences students from the Bachelor of Communication (Social and Political Sciences) final year placement program have made excellent contributions to our organisation by working on projects in the areas of research, analysis, evaluation and external and internal communication strategies.
The program is a great opportunity for the students to ensure they are well prepared for the workplace and develop transferrable professional skills in addition to applying specialist skills from their degree. Our team has benefited from the young talent with fresh ideas, revitalising team members so much that all interns have gained employment with the department following their placements.

Lead Evaluator (COVID Intensive Learning Program)

We have trialed interns from other universities but based on the calibre of interns and the preparation they receive prior to joining our company, we will only accept UTS Arts and Social Sciences interns for the time being. The faculty's Internship Team has developed useful resources to support the students’ internships both for the student and the host organisation.
Over the last five years we have engaged a number of UTS Arts and Social Sciences Interns – three of whom have been offered paid employment following their internships. This is a testament to the quality of the students and to how the faculty prepares its students for the workplace.
Catherine Fritz-Kalish
Co-founder & Managing Director, Global Access Partners
UTS Communication students from the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences were interested in areas relating to the entertainment business, screenwriting, editing, film marketing, production. What stood out most of all was their passion for what they wanted to do with their course, how they applied their knowledge to their internship with us and their desire for working in the field.
All wanted to learn so much in the short time they had, wanted to be involved in everything and they brought a very open-minded perspective that was fresh and unique compared to those that we may have had interning with us before.
Stephen Basil-Jones
Executive Vice-President, Sony Pictures Entertainment
I have to say how impressed I have been with every UTS FASS Media Arts and Production intern that has come our way. Each one has brought great personal and professional qualities to Nine and have all fitted in very well with our teams. The feedback from all our areas has been fantastic!
Ian Becker

As UTS alumni with qualifications in communications, creative writing and professional editing, I am well aware of the quality and relevance of the UTS Arts and Social Sciences course offerings.
When looking for publishing interns I am particularly interested in UTS Arts and Social Sciences (Creative Writing) students and their awareness of recent trends in the industry and are interested in working in a small but innovative press.
