Guest lectures
The workplace in the classroom
- Guest lectures are an opportunity for you as an expert to foster better industry preparedness in students by ensuring they can link theory from their university studies with authentic workplace scenarios.
- By sharing your relevant projects our students get inspired to explore careers in your organisation, or within the same industry.
Delivering guest lectures to Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences (FASS) Creative Writing students is a great way for me to gather my thoughts about the ever-evolving publishing landscape in Australia and abroad. As a board member of the Small Press Network it is a chance for me to convey some insights from this important organisation which advocates for independent publishers.
My presentations involve recent examples of controversial issues around such aspects of publishing as ethical storytelling protocols. I also engage the students in group discussions to explore those issues and to test new ideas.
Our production of a set of ten small format books last year to celebrate our ten years in publishing was a result of positive feedback from one of those discussion sessions, demonstrating the mutual benefit of guest lectures.
