UTS TESOL wins NEAS Quality Provider award

3 March 2023
The UTS TESOL and Applied Linguistics discipline has earned the Quality Provider Award (New Member) from the National ELT Accreditation Scheme (NEAS).
UTS TESOL

The NEAS seeks to support English Language Teaching within Australia and globally, by advancing quality assurance practices in the field and fostering partnerships between ELT providers and educators.

The Quality Provider Award recognises recently endorsed NEAS members (which UTS joined in 2022) who “have shown dedication and commitment to quality in the ELT Sector.” The NEAS awarded UTS following a thorough inspection of the TESOL and Applied Linguistics program in 2022.

The NEAS particularly identified UTS for:

  • Its commitment to quality outcomes for stakeholders in each of the NEAS Quality Areas

  • Demonstrating quality in the Centre’s programs and services

The award will be formally announced during the NEAS Management conference and presented to the university on Thursday May 4.

The Quality Assurance Framework is designed by the NEAS to establish and uphold high standards, support centres in demonstrating quality in their programs, and provides guidance in improvement processes. To receive their tick of approval is high praise, and indicates the recognition of the UTS program from both regulatory and government bodies, as well as the global ELT community.

The award will be formally announced during the NEAS Management conference and presented to the university on Thursday May 4.

The UTS TESOL and Applied Linguistics program is a suite of postgraduate courses designed to prepare graduates for:

  • Starting or advancing a career in teaching literacy, numeracy, and English language to adults

  • Adding or developing a specialism in teaching English as an additional language to school children

  • Starting or advancing a career in teaching English for academic purposes

Graduates from the program have found work as teachers of English as an additional language, teaching adult literacy and numeracy/foundation skills in Australia or overseas, and as curriculum developers and program managers in the TESOL/ literacy and numeracy sector.
