The UTS Master of Teaching in Primary Education provides students with a postgraduate qualification that allows them to teach in NSW primary schools, adhering to the subject content knowledge standards set by the NSW Education Standards Authority (NESA). The course can be completed in two years by those with the necessary undergraduate degree and specialisation subjects.

The core component provides research-based studies of educational theory and practice as a basis for professional decision-making in the primary school context, including inclusive education, digital learning, working with and for Indigenous Australians, and the use of educational data for research and evaluation.

*This course is pending accreditation by the NSW Education Standards Authority (NESA) as a recognised primary school teaching qualification.

Teaching options

Career options include primary teaching (kindergarten to year 6) in a public or private school, in metropolitan or rural, local or international settings (subject to meeting relevant employer requirements).

I got to experience a small school of fifty students with a cross-stage composite 4/5/6 class. During this placement, I was able to to program and teach my own unit for the first time, and was forced to adapt my teaching style to a very unique school context.

Teaching is hard, and placements show us that. But in addition to improving my adaptability and on-paper skillset as a teacher, my professional experience placements have convinced me that I am, at heart, a teacher.

I am very grateful for the placement program I went through at UTS - it's the reason I chose to study here rather than any other university.

I appreciate at UTS that we do many placements at various schools. This is great as we get experience in different settings and learn from various teachers. During all professional experience, it is so insightful and as prac students, you are constantly learning.

Many of the skills, strategies and techniques that I have learnt on previous placements, I currently still do. As placement students, you learn first hand what works and can use in your classroom.
