Nicolas Baudin Internships provide UTS Students with Research Opportunities in France
Iman Rahimi, PhD, Research Scholar at the Faculty of Engineering IT, is a scholarship recipient of the prestigious Nicolas Baudin Program: Internships in France initiative from the Embassy of France in Australia. The scholarship gives Iman the unique opportunity to conduct research and work in collaboration across Australia and France with UTS, the University of Lorraine, and road-side maintenance industry partner, Noremat.
“My project is about data integration to provide a tool for roadside maintenance and mowing optimisation. The case study is in France but it’s possible to expand the solution to other parts of the world.”
Iman analyses large data sets provided by the industry leader, Noremat, to design a framework tool to optimise the time, cost, and environmental impact of large-scale roadside mowing. Supervisors Simona Mihaita from UTS together with Prof. Mauricio Camargo and Brunelle Marche from the University of Lorraine provide mentorship and support during the 4-month-internship.

The Nicolas Baudin Program: Internships in France initiative provides UTS students and scholars with a unique opportunity to undertake a research internship at a French host university in collaboration with an industry partner. The grant, which typically covers travel expenses, cost of living in France, and the cost of studying at a French university has been converted to a living stipend in order for Iman to complete the internship remotely from Australia. Once COVID-19 border restrictions allow, grant recipients will resume travel between Australia and France.
