The three students will undertake PhDs  in topics ranging across next generation wireless systems, agricultural robotics, and IoT for enhanced information gathering.

Mr Iain Watt, Deputy Vice-Chancellor and Vice-President (International) welcomed students to campus.

We are proud to welcome these students to UTS as a continuation of our relationship with Vingroup and VinUniversity. This program contributes to UTS’ reputation for world-leading research. I am excited to see the outcomes of these students projects.

Professor Ian Burnett, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering and IT, delivered an official welcome to the students.

“We are delighted to welcome these students as the first Vingroup scholars at UTS. Our relationship with Vingroup is a great example of how our connections and research are delivering outcomes for both Australia and Vietnam.”

Professor Ian Burnett, Dean, Faculty of Engineering and IT

Distinguished guests from the Consulate General of Vietnam in Sydney – Mr Trinh Dang Ha, Director of the Science and Technology Representative Office, and Mr Nguyen Minh Hong Quang, also from the Science and Technology Representative Office – attended the welcome to express their support for the Vingroup scholars.

Mr Trinh underlined the importance of such linkages for strengthening the relationship between Australia and Vietnam.

The Vingroup Science & Technology Scholarship Program awards scholarships to Master's students and PhD candidates, focusing on key areas of research that have the potential for breakthroughs in science and technology in Vietnam.

UTS is one of only 50 universities worldwide selected to be part of the program, and these three students are the largest cohort to begin at any institution under the program.
