I was motivated to undertake postgraduate study because I wanted a change of career. I also wanted to experience study as an adult rather than a high school graduate.
I chose UTS initially because the convenience and location made UTS attractive, but I was impressed with the efficiency of the application process.
My studies have given me immense personal growth and confidence. It is pleasing and satisfying to accomplish good results at a postgraduate level. I also gained comprehensive academic skills and a deep and detailed level of understanding of many areas of midwifery practise, research methods, administrative and political influences on midwifery. Of course, I've now also got a thorough knowledge of my thesis topic, homebirth.
Study at UTS is incredibly professional, inspiring, motivating and engaging. I know I have been taught and mentored by absolute world leaders in my chosen field. They are professionals who are trail-blazers in both the literary and clinical facets of midwifery.
My advice to students studying this degree is to use the knowledge of your lecturers and supervisors, they are there to help you achieve well. Cherish your time, open your mind and your ears – you have the best teaching you.
My plans for the future are to work in midwifery practise in the future as well as experience remote or possibly overseas midwifery positions in developing countries. At the moment I work part time and have two young children so there is never a dull moment!
