Delving into data to reveal excellence
The Australian's Research Magazine celebrates the excellence of Australian research by delving deep into the data and identifying our nation's top researcher, and top research institution, in each of 250 fields of research.
For 2024, UTS has been named field leading research institution for Artificial Intelligence and Databases & Information Systems, with Distinguished Professor Jie Lu named the nation's top researcher in the latter.
Jie Lu's research excellence has earned her an Australian Laureate Fellowship to develop new theories, methodologies and algorithms to advance autonomous machine learning for data-driven decision-making, amongst many other projects which promise to advance the field and improve multiple industries.
The Australians' research methodology rates all researchers and institutions in each field according to an "impact score", which takes into account both the quality of the research (by examining only top journals in each field) and the impact of the research (judged by the number of citations). The magazine offers a unique insight into Australia's research landscape and highlights the excellence of both the country's institutions and individual researchers.
