In conversation with Stanley Johnson
Stanley Johnson is a former Conservative Party member of the European Parliament (representing Wight and Hampshire East) from 1979 to 1984.
He is a passionate advocate of environmental causes and climate action and is an advisor to Worldwide Support for Development, a not for profit assisting disadvantaged people in communities throughout the world. He is the author of books including The Warming (2021), Where the Wild Things Were (2012) and Survival (2010).
Johnson advocates for environmental protection policy within the UK Conservative party and defends the forward-leaning action on climate taken by the government of his son, Boris Johnson, UK Prime Minister since 2019.
Johnson is visiting Australia on behalf of Worldwide Support for Development and comes to UTS to speak with former New South Wales Premier and former Foreign Minister, Bob Carr.
This UTS4Climate event will focus on the success and failures of COP26 and breakdown the expected priorities for COP27 in Cairo.

About the panellists
Stanley Johnson
Mr Stanley Johnson was educated at Oxford University, served on the staff of the World Bank in Washington in the 1960s and in the 1970s as a senior official of the European Commission in Brussels responsible for environmental policy. He was elected in 1979 as a Member of the European Parliament where he was Vice-Chairman of the European Parliament's Committee on the Environment. He is currently International Ambassador for the Conservative Environment Network, UK, Chairman of the Advisory Council of GEDU (Global Education), President of The Gorilla Organization, and an Adviser to Worldwide Support for Development.
He has written several books on environmental and population issues and has been honoured with awards for his services to the environment by numerous organisations, including Greenpeace, RSPCA, and the RSPB.
The Honourable Bob Carr
The Honourable Bob Carr is Industry Professor (Business and Climate Change) at the University of Technology Sydney (UTS). Professor Carr works with the Institute for Sustainable Futures and the UTS School of Business, bringing his unique skills and experience to diverse portfolios, including business and industry, international relations and climate change research and policy.
Professor Carr is a former Foreign Minister of Australia (2012-2013). He is also the longest continuously serving Premier in New South Wales history (1995-2005). Between 2014-2019 he was Director of the Australia-China Relations Institute (ACRI) at UTS, the only think tank in Australia devoted to the study of the Australia-China relationship.
