We are pleased to announce that Dr Kate Bower, Consumer Data Advocate for CHOICE, will be joining HTI as our first HTI Fellow for a six-month period.
Kate will be primarily working with HTI’s Future of AI Regulation in Australia Program. Kate brings exceptional skills in technology and consumer rights, as well as public advocacy.
Kate has led vital work at CHOICE, including the investigation into facial recognition technology at Bunnings, Kmart and The Good Guys. This investigation prompted all three retailers to pause their use of facial recognition, while the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner investigates the privacy law implications.
HTI will announce further fellowships over the next 6 months.
