A digital globe surrounded by symbols of sustainability, climate, power and infrastructure

The Centre for Climate Risk and Resilience (CCRR) is dedicated to helping businesses address the physical and transition risks brought on by climate change.

CCRR’s goal is to be recognised for global research impact; safeguarding the ecosystems and local communities in which businesses operate while developing new strategies for value creation and sustainability.

About our Centre

Located in the UTS Business School, CCRR is uniquely positioned to support businesses in taking urgent and immediate collaborative action to decarbonise the economy and regenerate Country and planetary health. The Centre contributes to the School’s efforts to close the gap between knowledge and action by providing evidence-based research, education and advice to policymakers, business, and community leaders.

Our Centre is led by Professor Martina Linnenluecke, who brings extensive experience and high-calibre research in the dynamic fields of climate change, environmental finance and sustainability.

The urgency to act

Global climate change has become a worldwide existential threat.

The latest report by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change warns that ‘widespread and rapid changes in the atmosphere, ocean, cryosphere and biosphere have occurred.’

Industrial activity has been a major driver of climate change and as such, firms are in a unique position to contribute to the transition to a low-carbon economy. However, it is increasingly apparent that firms also face the consequences of climate change in the form of physical risks and transition risks.

Climate change is one of civilisation’s greatest challenges, presenting a paradigm shift in the way business, industries and markets respond, adapt and rethink their impact on society and our environment.

— Professor Carl Rhodes, Dean, UTS Business School

Our research focus

  1. To support UTS Business School’s Mission to be a socially committed business school focused on developing and sharing knowledge for an innovative, sustainable, and prosperous economy in a fairer world.
  2. To provide decision-makers in business, industry and government with world-leading research and thought leadership on the strategic impacts of climate change and resulting environmental and social issues.
  3. To collaborate with like-minded partners to help lead the transition towards sustainability.
  4. To carry out transdisciplinary research in a select range of areas and to build scale, critical mass and a reputation that will attract world-class researchers and postgraduate research candidates.
  5. To act on UTS’ vision to deliver transdisciplinary research with transformative benefits that enhance the wellbeing of society and the environment.
