It was a great hands on degree that was never dull! The staff are leaders in their field.
My degree appealed to me because:
Sport was such a big part of my life that it seemed a logical step after leaving school. Initially I was drawn to the business side of sport but later my interests lead me to the hands on field based aspects of sport.
I chose UTS because:
The facilities and equipment available to students is exceptional. The staff are passionate and knowledgeable and this really was infectious when deciding where to study. To be a graduate of UTS is something that I am extremely proud of and is a respected attribute in the sporting and business worlds. UTS not only provided me with an environment to learn and develop, it offered me support to pursue my dreams and further my sporting career.
My advice to anyone considering the degree is:
A Bachelor of Sport Management is a great foundation degree. It enabled me to explore and learn more about the body and its performance whilst also studying business and management fundamentals. It was these fundamentals that enabled me to develop in my career and they are skills transferable to other fields.
The Bachelor of Human Movement (now Bachelor of Sport and Exercise Science) was an amazing degree that enabled me to develop knowledge and skills learnt within Sport Managment. The staff are leaders in their field and create an inspiring environment that make you want to learn and discover more. It was a great hands on degree that was never dull!
My degree prepared me for the workplace by:
Developing key fundamental skills and knowledge that would prepare me for any business or management positions. The inclusion of industry placements in both my degrees exposed me to the workings of the industry and opened many doors through new contacts and networks. It also put knowledge and learning into context through the application of theories and concepts. Even now after 6 years since I first graduated I still work with and keep in touch with people I met on my first industry internship - this is something that is invaluable.
The thing I enjoy most about my job/working in health services is:
I love working within the health service. It is an energetic, fast paced environment with constant challenges but many rewards along the way. The people I was lucky enough to meet and work with were all inspiring and high achievers.
The completion of my final university exams marked the end of life as a uni student and the beginning of my employment as the Sports Program Manager and Events Officer with Gymnastics New South Wales.
During my time at the New South Wales Institute of Sport I was a Sport Consultant, working as a Program Manager for the swimming program. The biggest rewards here came from the time and work invested into developing athletes that not only achieved world class success but also the athletes that reached their goals and performed above expectations. These moments made all the hard work worth it!
My other role at The Bulldogs was an amazing insight into professional sport and the importance that science plays in performance. The opportunity to work with elite athletes and world class coaches and trainers was an amazing experience. Just the thought that my knowledge was empowering them and teaching them was unbelievable!
