NSW teachers are going on strike for the first time in 10 years.
The teacher walk-off
The importance of investing in teachers and education cannot be stressed enough. Effectively shaping the future generations of Australians depends on a system which allows teachers to prioritise students and be fairly remunerated for their work.
However, in recent times, teachers – particularly in New South Wales, are doing it pretty tough. Policy decisions have increased the scope of teachers’ jobs and in turn their workload. Pay is historically lower than that of other comparable professions. And New South Wales is on target to eventually run out of teachers altogether.
What has led to this? And what strategies can be used to address this crisis in education?
In this episode of Think: Business Futures, presenter Stefan Posthuma is joined by Mihajla Gavin, Senior Lecturer at the UTS Business School.
