Our commitment
UTS acknowledges the Gadigal people of the Eora Nation, the Boorooberongal people of the Dharug Nation, the Bidiagal people and the Gamaygal people upon whose ancestral lands our university stands. We would also like to pay respect to the Elders both past and present, acknowledging them as the traditional custodians of knowledge for these lands.
UTS has an ongoing commitment to provide opportunities for Indigenous Australian people in the higher education sector. UTS takes a whole‑of‑university approach to promoting Indigenous education and employment and — as part of that approach — has established a comprehensive Indigenous governance structure to oversee the development and progression of the university’s Indigenous commitments.
Vice-Chancellor’s Indigenous Advisory Committee
The Vice-Chancellor’s Indigenous Advisory Committee is UTS’s premier advisory body with respect to the external Indigenous community. The committee reports to the Vice-Chancellor and is chaired on the Vice-Chancellor’s behalf by the current Indigenous member of the UTS Council or, where there is no Indigenous member on Council or the member is absent, by a Chair elected by and from the committee’s external Indigenous members.
Vice-Chancellor’s Indigenous Strategies Committee
The Vice-Chancellor’s Indigenous Strategies Committee is chaired by the Provost on behalf of the Vice-Chancellor. The committee governs the development and progression of UTS's Indigenous education and employment commitments, as articulated in the Indigenous Policy and its two associated strategies, the Indigenous Education and Research Strategy 2019–2023 and the Wingara Indigenous Employment Strategy 2019–2023.
Senior staff from across UTS have also partnered with Indigenous academic and non-academic staff to consolidate their expertise into three specialist sub-committees, which report directly to the Vice-Chancellor’s Indigenous Strategies Committee. These committees are:
