Clarissa
UTS Business: Bachelor of Business - Clarissa
Hi! My name is Clarissa and I’m from Indonesia!
I am currently studying marketing and information systems in University of technology Sydney.
One of the reasons I chose UTS is the teaching methods –interactive and independent learning.
At UTS, we dive into the materials using both visuals and audio resources for in-depth learning. This is coupled with practical exercises dealing with real clients, including several well-known companies.
UTS taught me to be independent. Meaning, I impose self-discipline while also being flexible. Collaborative work is another aspect they always apply.
How we can communicate effectively with the team effectively, in brainstorming or problem solving.
What I like most about studying at UTS is the facilities and resources which they provide to help me learn as much as possible.
Like study spaces with computer rooms and spacious tables, U: PASS that helps us do our assignments, to mental health counselling.
When I chose UTS Business School, the first thing I looked for was how UTS would position me in this field and help me network.
And UTS has helped me get my first internship as a digital marketer at a startup company.
Through one of their facilities, namely UTS Careerhub.
For those who want to study business at UTS, my advice is to step out of your comfort zone.
It’s going to be a life-changing experience for you, here in Sydney where it’s very multicultural.
Take advantage of every moment of your time here. Be ready to be changed and transformed.
Quyn (Vietnam) – Bachelor of Business (IT and Finance)
In the future, with all the knowledge and skills that I have gained though UTS and UTS College (previously UTS Insearch), I hope that I will get my dream job in finance field or a big corporation, learn from people and travel as well.

UTS Business: Bachelor of Business (IT and Finance) - Quyn
My name is Quyn and I’m currently a UTS student doing the Bachelor of Business and majoring in IT and finance.
Through my degree, I’ve been learning all of the basic subjects in business, ranging from management, marketing, accounting, finance, statistics. However, for my second year, I’m majoring in finance and IT so I learn more about information systems. I learn coding, I learn how the bond market, the stock market works in the real world. I learn how to communicate with people, how to make friends and create connections. So, pretty much, UTS has prepared me with both hard skills and soft skills.
When I chose UTS Business School, I was looking for some courses that relates to psychology, relates to marketing, to communicate with people – like, the more interaction the better. And then I ended up with UTS. I see from the campus, the facilities, everything looks so perfect that they just, from the recommendations, the rankings, and that’s why I chose UTS Insearch and UTS.
UTS Insearch has prepared me really well for my UTS second year and final year. I’ve learnt all the related business subjects in UTS Insearch such as management, accounting and marketing, finance and statistics.
What I value most in studying business with UTS is I have a chance to learn from teachers who are already experts in their fields. They have experience in business, in IT and finance. They know how the real world works and they taught us exactly like that. And with support from modern technology, from computers, library, central building, everything is ready for us to study and to learn.
In the future, with all the knowledge and skills that I have gained though UTS and UTS Insearch, I hope that I will get my dream job in finance field or a big corporation, learn from people and travel as well.
My number one tip that I want to give to my junior business students, especially those from Vietnam, is be confident, be whoever you are, work hard, work smart and one day you will achieve your dreams and that’s when you prove with your parents, with your friends, with the whole world that you can make your dreams happen.
Yan (China) – Bachelor of Business
What’s important to the UTS teaching style is getting practical use out of professional knowledge. Which is one of my favourite things about it.
Yan
UTS Business: Bachelor of Business - Yan
Hi, my name is Yan Chen. I graduated from UTS with a Bachelor of Business degree.
During my three years at UTS, I have not only learned a lot of professional knowledge but also greatly improved my English skills. In addition, my communication and teamwork skills have also made great progress. What’s important to the UTS teaching style is getting practical use out of professional knowledge, which is one of my favourite things about it.
In class we often discuss real-world business problems and case-studies, and come up with solutions together with my classmates to try and solve them. After discussion and research, we get to present our findings to all and get a lot of feedback. I think this practical teaching method prepares you well for entering the real world and starting your career.
I really enjoy the engaging and relaxed classroom atmosphere when I study at UTS. Tutors and professors are very approachable. They are just like your friends and they really guide your learning. You can have face-to-face discussions with them and get lots of feedback. I find this relaxed and interesting classroom atmosphere really encouraged me to do in-depth research on subjects I was interested in.
I’d like to give you some advice: don’t hesitate, be brave enough to participate in class. Maybe your worried about language skills, that’s quite normal. As long as you’re brave and take the first steps, you can enjoy the class with your classmates.
You should make the most of every opportunity to practise your skills and improve. Besides the hard work, you will find there is lots of fun just waiting for you to discover.
Anisha (India) -Master of Marketing (extension)
The teaching style is very practical, and I loved that. Marketing is a field where you learn by doing, and UTS prepares us for that.
Anisha
UTS Business Master of Marketing (Extension) - Anisha
Hi! I’m Anisha, I’m from India. I’m studying a Masters of Marketing (Extension) and this is my Business building – AKA, my second home.
So I decided to study marketing at UTS because I honestly just loved the design of the course and I felt that no other uni offered the same marketing-oriented subjects that I felt were needed.
I think the subjects offered in my course helps us understand the core marketing concepts. Moreover, it helps us apply these concepts, theories and strategies to real-life businesses.
Also, the best part about studying business and their teaching style is that it’s very practical. And I personally loved that. Marketing is a field where you learn by doing, and UTS prepares us for that. We often have assignments related to real-world companies and we have to form marketing strategies and then pitch it to them. According to me, this comes as close as it gets to actually working. So UTS prepares us for the future of work.
Also for me, the most important aspect of today’s world is understanding how to use digital media effectively for marketing purposes. So that’s what I try doing. I try incorporating these theories that we learn and applying them to a digital sense with the help of our professors.
With all the knowledge, experience and skills I’m gaining, I really hope to bag a job in the field of brand management and create some creative campaigns which are worth remembering.
So my number one tip for people who want to study this course is to really go through the course design and check if the subjects are suitable to you. If you want to study marketing in the most practical and real sense, then I can assure you UTS is the place to be.
Chelsie (Phillipines) - Master of Professional Accounting
I’ve learnt a lot of both academic and non-academic skills at UTS and I plan to put them in to practice.
Chelsie
UTS Business Master of Professional; Accounting - Chelsie
Hi! I’m Chelsie Dawn Paras, a recent graduate of Master of Professional Accounting at UTS, and I’m from The Philippines.
What I was really looking for when I chose UTS was the quality of education that it provides. Yes, it is well-known to be one of the top universities in Australia. Other than that, it has the best teachers and lecturers. And a friendly environment, not to mention.
What I enjoyed most about studying at UTS is its wide range of facilities. The number one factor considered when doing some revision and research studies is the atmosphere around here, isn’t it? If you or your group needs some personal space, you could book a room and sit there as comfortable as you can, have some practice, and get an HD for your presentation. You can breathe the fresh air on the terraces while doing your essay and having a sip of your coffee to keep you going.
Take advantage of the tools available, like the ones that the UTS Library offers. Not to mention the well-lit and the ample reading books and materials it provides, as well as the support services within reach. Say, for example, the staff at the service desk and the library rovers roaming around.
As I went through in my studying, I’ve learnt a lot of both academic and non-academic skills. I plan to put them in practice. There’s a lot waiting on the outside world – I mean the real world. Yes, it may sound scary, but UTS has prepared me well for that, I’m sure. One of the important skills that I think I have improved is my interpersonal skills. Well, I’m not really a ‘people’ person, but with the activities and creative ways that UTS provided, it paved way for me to speak up and socialise.
Don’t be afraid of getting out of the box. Remember, you need to step up and don’t be scared of what lies ahead.
Jose (Colombia) - Master of Marketing

Jose
UTS Business Master of Marketing - Jose
Hi everyone, my name is Jose Rodriguez. I am originally from Colombia, and I studied a Master of Marketing at UTS Business School.
During my degree, I learnt a bunch of both practical and theoretical business skills that are highly relevant for any business professional that wants to enhance their career in marketing. I worked in different teams, and I also enhanced my communication skills, which are skills which are very important if you’re going for an interview or if you’re working in cross-functional teams.
The thing I liked the most about my degree is that UTS has a research-driven and practice-oriented business education that allows you to go the extra mile required but also to establish industry connections and meet leaders across different industries.
As part of my program and especially my final semesters, I was able to network with different leaders across industries, and I was also able to establish industry connections that are still relevant in my life.
My number one tip for students that want to study my course or want to study any course at the Business School is: meet people. Go out there, have a chat with people. That will definitely enhance your experience at UTS because it is all about the multicultural environment that we have and how do we maximise this to get the most out of the university.
I know the skills and knowledge I gained will be very relevant now and in the future, because they’re the strongest foundations I’ve got to progress in my career.
Mesias (Namibia) – PhD Quantitative Finance
I was given many different opportunities to present my PhD research at different platforms in different countries, international levels, which helps me to have a clear picture of what really research is about.
Mesias
UTS Business: PhD Quantitative Finance - Mesias
My name is Mesias Alfeus. I come from a little country in the south west of Africa, Namibia. I came to Australia in 2016 to do my PhD in quantitative finance.
I came to UTS because I was looking for the world’s best research centre in quantitative finance. Then I found the Quantitative Finance Research Centre, which was in the Finance Discipline Group, to be the best choice ever I would have.
And I had an opportunity to do my PhD, which I found to be well structured. The stages that you have to present your assessment every six months, it prepares you well to be well prepared to move to the next stage.
I encourage anyone who wants to consider a PhD to pursue UTS Busines School, because it also provides you with a conducive environment to do research, it has world-class research in different disciplines that cares about your wellbeing in research [and also] helps you to build yourself to be a world-class researcher.
I was given many different opportunities to present my PhD research at different platforms in different countries, international levels, which helps me to have a clear picture of what really research is about and also to have an opportunity to interact with the different professors who can actually be able to give me a good feedback, which helps me a lot when was I about to submit my PhD thesis and I had to incorporate all these comments that I have gained.
Being at the UTS Business School helps me to actually broaden up my knowledge about what finance is, what the market is about and what is really relevant in the market. It helps me to do research which is practical and which is also relevant.
After my PhD, I had an opportunity to be lecturing at the University of Wollongong, and then after I went to the University of Cape Town where I had a fellowship in quantitative finance doing research. And then now I’m currently lecturing at University of Stellenbosch, which is in South Africa. I’m now in the position of being able to apply my skills that I learned during my PhD to close Africa’s skills gap.
Subagio (Indonesia) – PhD Accounting
After I finish my PhD degree, I hope to go back to my role as ap policymaker in the Ministry of Finance in Indonesia and apply my enhanced knowledge and skill to the proper policy development in my country.
Subagio
UTS Business: PhD Accounting - Subagio
Hi, I’m Subagio from Indonesia. I’m currently doing my PhD degree in the Accounting Discipline Group of the UTS Business School.
Doing my PhD degree at UTS is obviously one of the best experiences of my life. In the program, I learn a lot about critical thinking, academic writing, data analysis, presentation skills and how to publish a paper in the top journal.
When I decided to study at UTS Business School, I was not only looking for a supportive environment but also an ambitious culture to keep contributing new knowledge to society. The best teaching and learning experience in my degree is our weekly seminar. In the seminar, we discuss [inaudible] paper in a friendly environment. We exercise our critical thinking and we give the author some feedback and recommendations to improve the paper.
I think these skills are essential to ensure that our research satisfies the academic goal to contribute to the body of knowledge. And also very important if you want to give some perspective to the government’s public policy development.
My tips for students who are currently considering pursuing their PhD degree at UTS Business School, first you have to set your research area – the area which you are really passionate about – and second, try to review the assessment materials and rewrite a simple proposal and then discuss this proposal with your future supervisor and then also look for scholarship opportunities from UTS, which is available at the UTS website.
After I finish my PhD degree, I hope to go back to my role as ap policymaker in the Ministry of Finance in Indonesia and apply my enhanced knowledge and skill to the proper policy development in my country. I’m eager to contribute to the research best policy reform in Indonesia.
