Juris Doctor Legal Writing Masterclass - Spring 2024
This Spring session we are pleased to continue to offer our Juris Doctor Writing Skills Masterclass. We will cover a whole of topics that relate to assessments, writing essays, case notes, responding to problem questions, academic language and academic integrity. Specifically, come along to learn more about:
- Decoding assessment task wording, criteria and rubrics;
- Different types of writing required for law assessments e.g. essays, short answer problems, critical case notes, statutory interpretation research exercises, legal problem advices and using the IRAC (issue, rule, application and conclusion) method
- Style, register and grammar for writing university assessments;
- What is academic integrity and what do you need to keep in mind.
The Masterclass will be delivered by Deb Nixon, who works with the Academic Language and Learning team at UTS and Genevieve Wilkinson, JD Program Head who also teaches within the Intellectual Property Program and has a passion for Legal Tech. The Masterclass has been designed with 1st year law assessments in mind but is suitable for students at any stage of their JD program. The Masterclass will not cover legal content. Rather, our focus will be on the skills needed to apply the legal knowledge you have obtained in class in your assessments.
