Dr. Negin Shariati (she/her)
Negin Shariati serves as the Director of Women in Engineering at IT (WiEIT) within the Faculty of Engineering and IT at UTS, providing leadership in a sustainable, impactful, and globally recognized program. She is dedicated to driving positive change in gender equity and diversity in engineering and IT. Negin is a Senior Lecturer in the School of Electrical and Data Engineering. She established the state of the art RF and Communication Technologies (RFCT) research laboratory at UTS, where she is currently the Co-Director and leads research and development in RF-Electronics, Sustainable Sensing, Low-power Internet of Things, and Energy Harvesting. Driven by her passion and commitment for promoting female participation in engineering, she leverages the RFCT facilities to create opportunities and foster inclusivity in the field. Faezeh Karimi (she/her)
Faezeh serves as the Deputy Director at Women in Engineering and IT, contributing to the strategic leadership of WIEIT’s programs and providing oversight for program operations across a range of initiatives. Faezeh’s academic background includes expertise in data analytics, visualizations, and network science applied to areas such as education, healthcare, and sustainability. Leveraging this expertise, she also undertakes responsibility for managing WIEIT’s research activities, particularly addressing the educational and professional development requirements of underrepresented groups in Engineering and IT, facilitating diversity and inclusion. Lucía Bautista (she/her)
Lucia is the Program Coordinator of Women in Engineering and IT at the University of Technology Sydney. She focuses on the Lucy Mentoring Program, strategy development, community, scholarships, and communications. She also engages with industry and collaborates with internal and external stakeholders. She has a strong background in policy and political analysis and collaborating with the not-for-profit and corporate sectors for the delivery of programs. Marco Angelini (he/him)
As Outreach Coordinator, Marco's main role is to roll out and deliver the STEM x Play and STEM x Impact Programs. He also supports the team in external engagement and communicating the unit’s successes. Marco’s professional background is in academic skills development, educational equity, and the transition to higher education; he has taught in humanities and science subjects at London School of Economics, Queen’s University of Belfast, and UTS. Victoria Migueles (she/her)
Victoria is the Women in Engineering and IT Program Officer. Victoria is responsible for keeping the WiEIT community connected through the Community Development program, communications, and the Gender Equity Ambassador Leadership Program. She also collaborates with the Lucy Mentoring Program. Victoria has a degree in law and has recently finished her Master of Public Policy. She has a strong commitment to justice and equality and is passionate about dismantling systemic barriers and inspiring positive transformation. Connect with Victoria on LinkedIn.
Jiaqi Deng (she/her)
Jiaqi serves as the Women in Engineering and IT Postgraduate Student Engagement Assistant and WiSR Mentoring Coordinator. Her role involves coordinating the WiSR Mentoring Program, connecting postgraduate students with industry and academic mentors, organizing events, workshops, and catchups for WiSR participants. Indira Vasikova (she/her)
Indira is the Women in Engineering and IT Postgraduate Student Engagement Assistant. Indira is responsible for coordinating the Postgraduate Gender Equity Ambassador Program to equip postgraduate students with professional skills and the opportunity to voice their options and create social impacts. She also leads the designing, planning, and delivery of social and technical initiatives for postgraduate students, such as Let’s Talk Sessions. She also supports the WiSR Mentoring Program. Georgia McCarthy (she/her)
Georgia is an Outreach Officer for Women in Engineering and IT. Her role at WiEIT is coordinating School Outreach programs for schools in Sydney and beyond. Georgia communicates and plans with schools to deliver multi-touchpoint programs linked with school curriculum. She manages volunteers and facilitators, leading and training them to independently facilitate workshops in schools. Georgia, as a UTS Mechatronic Engineering graduate, is a leader and role model for Primary, high school, and university students. Connect with Georgia on LinkedIn.
Maryam Kausar (they/she)
Maryam studied a Bachelor of Mechatronic Engineering at UTS and now works with the WiEIT team as an Outreach Officer. Working alongside Marco and Georgia, Maryam coordinates high school outreach for the STEM x Impact program. From her first semester studying at UTS, she has worked with WiEIT on our School Outreach Programs and on-campus events.
