About the Speaker
Professor Anthony Burke is an international curator, academic writer, architectural designer and director in private architectural practice.
As Head of the School of Architecture here at UTS, Anthony’s focus is on contemporary design and theory in relation to the future of practice and technology, and its implications for the built environment. His current research is focused on the role of architecture in the innovation economy.
Anthony was Assistant Professor in Architecture at the University of California, Berkeley for five years before returning to Australia in 2007.
At UTS he developed our Master of Advanced Architecture degree, and he teaches advanced architectural design, technology, and practice futures. He regularly leads design studios and supervises higher degree research and doctoral students.
In 2010 Anthony launched Open Agenda – now in its sixth year, Open Agenda is a national competition for speculative design research in architecture for young architects. He has also served as architectural judge for the London Design Week 2014.
Anthony presented at TEDx Sydney in 2012, and was selected alongside Gerard Reinmuth of Terroir and TOKO as co-creative director for the Australian Pavilion at the 2012 Venice Architecture Biennale for the exhibition Practice Formations.
