What was your course?
What exactly does your work/job entail?
\APRA publishes a suite of statistical publications across all industries. Working in statistics within the Supervisory Support Division, my role is primarily focused on Authorised Deposit-Taking Institutions (ADIs). Current responsibilities include the analysis and publication of the Monthly Banking Statistics (MBS) publication, performing statistical analyses on ADIs and providing advice on available data.
What part of your work inspires you the most? Why do you find it interesting?
Working at a national statistics agency provides me with many opportunities to learn and develop my skill set. However, it is the APRA mission that resonates most with me. Knowing that the work I do each day is in the interest of "...protecting the financial well-being of the Australian community."
How did you get to your current role?
While completing my honours I worked as tutor at UTS and numeracy advisor at the Australian College of Physical Education (ACPE). This lead to an opportunity to work as a research assistant at the Australian College of Applied Psychology (ACAP). Having completed my studies, I was looking for a more permanent working arrangement and was fortunate enough to land a full-time position at APRA.
Do you find the skills you learnt during your degree useful and versatile? If so how?
During my honours I was exposed to a diverse range of statistical methods for solving a myriad of analytical problems. The skills I learned while completing subjects in statistical consulting, multivariate analysis and data mining equipped me with the tools to approach new and dynamic problem solving tasks in the work place with confidence.
