China’s ambassador to Australia has pulled back from Beijing’s 14-point list of grievances, claiming it was never a list of demands of policy concessions from Canberra as a precondition for repairing diplomatic ties and ending its campaign of economic coercion.
In a public appearance that was repeatedly interrupted by protesters, Xiao Qian denied the Chinese government had imposed trade sanctions on Australian exports other than punitive tariffs on wine and barley, instead saying Chinese consumers were boycotting Australian goods.
