Tokyo | Xi Jinping and Joe Biden will seek to stave off a further deterioration in China-US relations when they meet on Wednesday (early Thursday AEDT) ahead of the APEC summit, but differences over Taiwan and strategic competition mean their long-anticipated talks are unlikely to end a stand-off between the world’s two most powerful countries.
Mr Xi was scheduled to meet Mr Biden in an undisclosed location in or near San Francisco, where other world leaders including Anthony Albanese are gathering this week.
