Overview

The Breville Australia Indigenous Scholarship in Engineering & Information Technology aims to support Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander descent students who have the potential and commitment to study Engineering or Information Technology.

The Scholarship is supported by Breville Australia who is committed to increasing positive education and employment outcomes and creating opportunities for Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander People.

Who is eligible?

Applicants must be/have:

  • Australian Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander descent and provide either:
    • a Confirmation of Aboriginality from a Local Aboriginal Land Council or other Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander organisation; or
    • a UTS Statutory Declaration form accompanied by two written references from Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people from the applicant’s community who can confirm their identity and are not an immediate family member; and
  • Enrolled in the first year or second year of one of the following UTS courses:
    • Bachelor of Engineering (Honours), Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) Diploma in Professional Engineering Practice or combined Engineering course, majoring in Mechanical, Mechanical and Mechatronic Engineering;
    • Bachelor of Information Technology, Bachelor of Information Technology Diploma in IT Professional Practice or combined Bachelor of Information Technology course;
    • Bachelor of Computing Science (Honours);
  • Students commencing first year: An ATAR (or equivalent) of 69 or above, or have received an offer through the Jumbunna Pathways Program, or have completed an UTS College Diploma;
  • Students commencing second year:
    • Have achieved a minimum Pass average (WAM 50+ per session) in the first year;
    • Have successfully completed a minimum of 36 credit points, or equivalent, in their chosen course
  • All applicants must apply using the UTS online Scholarship Application form to be eligible;
  • All applicants must be able to  attend an interview in person (either Face-to-face or via Zoom)

Selection process

Eligible applicants will be presented to the Scholarship Selection Committee, which will undertake the selection of Recipients based on the below selection criteria.

As demonstrated in the Scholarship application and interview:

  • Passion for and motivation to succeed in their UTS course and pursue a career in Engineering or Information Technology;
  • Initiative to seek opportunities to continually advance their professional and personal lives;
  • Alignment of values, goals and culture with those of Breville Australia;
  • Interest and motivation to succeed in the Breville Australia internship and graduate programs;
  • Academic merit (based on ATAR, qualification as the basis of admission or WAM in UTS course).
