Steps to applying as an international student at UTS

There are different steps for applying for:
- International students doing Year 12 exams in Australia

- International exchange students coming to UTS
- International exchange students going from UTS

- Study abroad students coming to UTS
Step 1: Select your course preferences
Choose course preferences that you wish to study, and the semester you would like to commence your studies:
You may apply to UTS at any time. The closing dates for applications for particular semesters are as follows:
- Autumn semester (March) - 15 December
- Spring semester (August) - 15 June
Late applications will not be accepted.
It is best to apply early to allow yourself plenty of time to organise your student visa to study at UTS.
Step 2: Complete application form
There are two ways of submitting an UTS International application:

Option 1: Submit a UTS International online application
Select the course you wish to study from the course listing. On the course details page click the red APPLY NOW button located on the left hand side. Follow instructions to register and submit an online application directly to UTS International.
If you have already submitted an application, via the UTS Online Application System, then click on this link to enter the UTS Online Application System directly.

Option 2: Complete a hard copy application form

Hardcopy application forms must be completed using a black pen, with clear printing.
You must sign your application form. Application forms signed by a UTS representative or by proxy will not be processed.
You need the Adobe Acrobat Reader (opens an external site) to view these PDF files.
Admission to UTS courses is competitive, the application is not an enrolment form, nor does it guarantee admission.
An incomplete application will result in delays in processing.
Step 3: Attach supporting documentation
All applications require supporting documents to be submitted to UTS.
All documents submitted with this application become the property of UTS.
The actual support documentation required depends on the applicant, and the type of study they are applying to do.
- academic transcript,
include a certified copies of your academic records. - english language proficiency,
include a certified copy of your English test score if available. - if you are applying for credit recognition,
a completed application form. - details of exclusion (or possible exclusions) from a course on academic or other grounds
- details of relevant work experience,
including certified copies of references from your employer on company letterhead, if required. - supporting Statement or portfolio
if required - details of disability or ongoing medical condition that will require you to seek special assistance from the University
attach a medical statement from a registered doctor - if you are applying for a postgraduate research degree, please contact the relevant University research staff member to ensure that UTS can supervise your intended research topic.
Your application must include:- research plan - detailing research objectives, example of your key literature in your area of interest and a broad outline of the sequence and timing of work that you plan to do.
- referees contacts - you must have two referees contact details.
Documents that are not in English must be officially translated and submitted together with certified copies of supporting documents.
UTS cannot consider your application if all required supporting documentation is not attached.
Applicants who have submitted online applications can attach copies of their supporting documentation to their online application. It is still necessary for the original copies to be submitted to UTS.
Certified Copies of Supporting Documentation
UTS will accept copies certified by employees of one of the following:
- Australian Education Centre
- Australian Overseas Diplomatic Mission
- UTS Authorised Representative or Agent
- Public Notary Office
- the Administration of the Institution which issued the relevant document
- an Australian University
Alternatively, documents verified by someone who is currently employed in AUSTRALIA as:
- an accountant - members of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Australia, or the Australian Society of Certified Practising Accountants, or the National Institute of Accountants, or the Association of Taxation and Management Accountants or Registered Tax Agents
- a bank or credit union manager
- a barrister, solicitor or patent attorney
- a police officer with the rank of sergeant and above
- a post office manage
- a principal of an Australian secondary college, high school or primary school
- a commissioner for declarations
- a Justice of the Peace where the registration number is clearly indicated
What does correctly certified mean?
Correctly certified means that your original document has been sighted and the copy has been sworn to be a true copy of the original by one of the authorised people mentioned above. Please note that scanned or photocopies will not be accepted.
Step 4: Application fee
The application fee will only be waived if one of the following conditions apply:
- you are a current UTS student
- you are a current INSEARCH student
Payment of the application fee can be made in the following ways:
- cheques and bank drafts
made payable to the University of Technology Sydney - UTS International - credit card
Visa, Mastercard or Amex card by completing the credit card payment form (pdf, 36kb) - BPay
online applications only
Step 5: Submitting application, application fee and supporting documentation
Your application, application fee, and supporting documentation must be submitted to UTS.

You can submit your application to one of the many Student recruitment agent worldwide. These Student recruitment agents are more than happy to discuss study options available at UTS, and can assist you in processing your application.
To a UTS representative at a UTS International event:
Your application can also be submitted directly to a UTS representative at a UTS international event.
Step 6: Acknowledgement letter
You will receive a letter acknowledging receipt of your application approximately two weeks after your application is received by UTS.
The application procedure normally takes about four to six weeks and UTS International will advise you in writing whether your application is successful.
Step 7: Accepting an offer
If you have met all specific requirements you will recieve a letter of offer to study at UTS.
You will then need to accept the offer.
