As a new school, UTS Pharmacy was in a unique position to employ best practice at each stage of its course development. Our curricula are not just cutting-edge and industry relevant in terms of content, but also student focused in their approach. To ensure this was achieved, UTS employed a specialist Educational Designer to analyse the learning outcomes for UTS Pharmacy courses and design best practice delivery methods.
The UTS Master of Pharmacy employs practice-based teaching and learning approaches in the following ways:
Practice-based teaching methods
Learning methodologies are integrated, creating an engaging learning environment. Lectures are complemented by problem-based active learning sessions. An optimised mix of tutorials, practical workshops, simulated scenarios, interdisciplinary forums and clinical placements encourage you to apply the theory you learn in a small group environment with individual attention and critique.
Integrated subject material
Our emphasis is on helping students build a comprehensive understanding of the theory through its relevance and application to real life scenarios in a diverse range of practice settings. To facilitate this, subject material has been integrated across the Masters program and assessments require students to solve problems and apply their theoretical knowledge. This means that as you are gain a strong foundation in pharmaceutical science, you'll also learn progressively how this science is applied in a variety of contexts.
Realistic career preparation
The curriculum has been strengthened by inclusion of interdisciplinary expertise and a choice of elective subjects. This means that you will be prepared for not just current, but also future areas of demand in pharmacy. At UTS, you will have access to state-of-the-art clinical labs and the expertise of leading academics from a range of disciplines including UTS Health and UTS Science. Collectively, these will ensure that you receive the highest quality of education across clinical skills, communication and therapeutics and be prepared for the demands of a career in pharmacy.
Simulation
With user experience at the heart of the curriculum design, we have integrated technology and multimedia into all aspects of the program. Students will use advanced dispensing systems and state-of-the-art AV in our simulated pharmacy and a suite of online resources at home or in our student spaces. This ensures that eLearning and face to face instruction contribute seamlessly to each student's learning process.
Clinical placements
Students are provided with placements in a range of pharmacy settings including community, hospital, industry and consulting. Find out more.
