My name is Alex and I studied a masters of landscape architecture here at UTS. I chose to do landscape architecture at UTS, mainly because of the opportunity, it was quite a graphic and immersive university and the course itself was a way for me to project myself out into the broader industry.
UTS stood out, their engagement with research and advocacy, for me it was a way to engage with politics and climate discussions at the moment and to do something more beyond just designing.
Something that’s quite unique about landscape architecture here at UTS is the strong emphasis on collaboration. We have the opportunity to work with architects, interior designers and fashion throughout our undergraduate and postgraduate courses here.
It’s helped me evolve cross disciplinary, so just not pigeonholing myself into one discipline but understanding we do collaborate.
Throughout my time here the tutors have almost been one on one, so they have helped nurture us and been very hands on, drawing, sketching, in person. We do have supervisory sessions so they do offer as much support as they can particularly while doing a masters thesis.
I would recommend UTS to a range of students looking to study design it’s a good way to collaborate with other industries if you aren’t quite sure what you are wanting to do, it’s a good way to work between architecture, interior and even fashion in some instances.
