Commonwealth Supported Places
Commonwealth Supported Places (CSPs) within this course are competitive and allocated on merit. To be considered for a CSP, applicants must:
- Indicate their interest in a CSP on their application.
- Complete the compulsory personal statement.
- Apply on time in line with CSP deadlines (it is recommended applicants apply early as applications are assessed progressively).

This course equips graduates with the credentials to teach in NSW secondary schools, targeting those with relevant undergraduate degrees seeking a career in education. It will enable you to gain a master's qualification in just two years, with specialisations in key subjects like English, Mathematics, and Sciences, among others.
This course adheres to the NSW Education Standards Authority prerequisites, ensuring your qualification meets the required teaching and accreditation standards in New South Wales. You'll acquire a solid foundation in educational theory, develop practical teaching methods, and engage in 60 days of intensive field-based professional experience across diverse school environments.
Through a blend of research-based studies and hands-on practice, you'll refine your professional decision-making and classroom management skills. The course's flexible structure also allows for the completion of a large range of sought after majors, providing a comprehensive pathway to your teaching career.
This course is a NSW secondary school teaching preparation course and adheres to the subject content knowledge prerequisites as stipulated by the NSW Education Standards Authority (NESA). It is suitable for students about to graduate with a bachelor's degree and for mature-aged graduates who are changing careers and want a teaching qualification. It includes an intensive professional experience program where students spend 60 days in practical experience teaching, and offers extensive, structured and closely supported experiences of secondary school teaching in different settings. The course has the flexibility to enable students who have completed most but not all of the required undergraduate specialisation subjects to undertake the additional required subjects as part of the degree.

The aim of this course is to enable future teachers and educational leaders to generate advanced knowledge of educational practice, pedagogy, policy, curriculum and systems; to inquire into and research practice to improve educational experiences and outcomes; to build the capability to critically analyse, reflect on and synthesise theories of learning and teaching; to develop extensive knowledge and respect for diverse societies, cultures and abilities to inform inclusive practices; to apply their understanding and skill with creativity and expert judgment; to become professionals with a profound ethical foundation, sense of social responsibility and a commitment to social justice; to operate as autonomous professional learners in changing global communities; to become effective communicators highly skilled in new literacies; and to make well-informed contributions to contemporary debates pertinent to education.

To be eligible for admission to this course, applicants must meet the following criteria.
Applicants must have the following:
- Completed Australian bachelor's degree, master's degree, doctorate, or overseas equivalent, with at least one major discipline study relevant to the teaching area, as described by the NSW curriculum and consistent with NESA Subject Content Knowledge Requirements AND Motivation and suitability for teaching as outlined by NSW Education Standards Authority (NESA) and Australian Institute for Teaching and School Leadership (AITSL)
Motivation and suitability for teaching is demonstrated through a personal statement outlining interest in and understanding of the course.
Students who have studied overseas may be required to meet additional requirements set by the NSW Education Standards Authority (NESA) to qualify as teachers in NSW.
For applicants with a bachelor’s degree, the degree must contain at least one major discipline study and may contain a minor discipline study. A minor discipline study qualifies students to teach a second or additional subject. A major discipline study equates to six subjects, with no more than two subjects at first-year level and no fewer than two subjects at third-year level. A minor discipline study equates to four subjects, with no more than two subjects at the first-year level.
The English proficiency requirement for international students or local applicants with international qualifications is: IELTS Academic: 7.5 overall, with a minimum of 8.0 in both the speaking and listening modules, and a reading and writing score of 7.0; or TOEFL iBT: 102-109 overall, a listening score of 28, a speaking score of 26, a reading score of 24 and a writing score of 27; or PTE: 73-78 overall with a 79 in both the speaking and listening, and a reading and writing score of 65; or C1A/C2P: 191-199 overall with 200 in both the speaking and listening, and a reading and writing score of 185.

International studentsVisa requirement: To obtain a student visa to study in Australia, international students must enrol full time and on campus. Australian student visa regulations also require international students studying on student visas to complete the course within the standard full-time duration. Students can extend their courses only in exceptional circumstances.
