The following list contains information on who to contact in the case of an accident or illness.
Accident or illness
Immediate first aid
If you are on a UTS campus, call UTS Security or find a UTS first aid officer.

- 1800 249 559 from mobile phones.

- Find location details on the First Aid Officer and Emergency Warden posters posted around the campus.
Serious illness or hospitalisation
Information for students
If you are a student who is in hospital and will not be able to study in the foreseeable future, you can:
- Request documentation from the hospital or from your medical providers to confirm the dates and the impact of your medical condition.
- Contact your subject coordinators for your currently enrolled subjects and advise them of your situation and when you believe you will be able to return to study. Subject coordinator details can be found in Canvas.
- If you would like to attempt to complete your subject, but would like to have your circumstances taken into account, you can apply for Special Consideration using the supporting documents you have gathered.
- If you will not be able to complete your studies in the current session, you can submit an eRequest to withdraw from your subject after the census date using the supporting documents you have gathered.
- If the teaching session has already finished, and you have failed a subject as a result of your circumstances, you can submit a request for remission of HELP debt/refund of upfront payment and removal of academic penalty using the supporting documents you have gathered.
- If you have already enrolled for future sessions, consider logging in to My Student Admin to withdraw from subjects you have enrolled in future sessions, and be mindful of upcoming census dates.

Information for family and friends
If you are the parent, partner, family member or friend of a student who has been hospitalised or is unable to take action for themselves, you can:
- Contact Ask UTS and advise what has occurred. We can provide you with initial general advice regarding UTS processes, dates and deadlines over the phone, which may help you to make decisions about your next steps.
- You can then be referred to a team who can provide you with further advice that is more specific to your situation if needed. To ensure the safety and privacy of our students, you will be asked to provide:
- supporting documentation from the hospital or medical provider to confirm what has occurred
- a form of identification to confirm your identity and relationship to the student.
Concern for the welfare of another student
If you are a student and are concerned for the safety or welfare of another student or would like to discuss any related issues, please call UTS Counselling on +61 2 9514 1177 to ask to speak with a counsellor or email student.services@uts.edu.au. They will discuss with you all relevant options.
If the matter of concern is life-threatening, please call 000.
Accident and illness services
The UTS Health Service provides confidential medical services to UTS students.
The UTS Counselling Service offers confidential counselling to help with a wide range of personal, psychological, study-related and administrative difficulties. There are also self-help resources on topics such as depression and anxiety.
The Accessibility Service supports students with a disability or ongoing illness.
If your accident or illness might affect your assessment or exams, read the special circumstances information, as there are things you need to do before the assignment due date or exam.
When an accident or incident happens at UTS
If you are involved in any accident or incident (including a near miss) at UTS, it must be reported. Find out more at reporting an accident or incident at UTS.
If you injure yourself or your property is damaged on UTS premises while undertaking voluntary work experience, or when on a site visit, you may be entitled to make a claim against the university's public liability insurance.
If you see a hazard or risk, report it to a UTS staff member or UTS Security.
